Leadership that unlocks the potential of
Innovative Learning Environments

Bringing people together is very different from getting them to collaborate. Innovative Learning Environments (ILEs)/Modern Learning Environments (MLEs) are pioneering. They’re challenging orthodoxy, shattering some well-established norms and redefining traditional notions of ‘effectiveness’. It’s more a quantum leap than paradigm change.

Whilst much attention has been given to the changing nature of teaching, how leadership too needs to adapt has been relatively ignored. In truth, team leadership that once worked in single cell environments is no longer as effective. Harnessing the potential of ILEs/MLEs lies less with teachers and more with the profound changes their leaders need to make.

Despite vast differences in styles, personalities and experiences of leaders in ILEs/MLEs we are seeing striking parallels across the country in what makes an effective ILE/MLE leader. Moving from a co-operative mind set to a collaborative mind-set and influencing the mind-sets of those they lead is key.

The Day

In a solutions focused day we will ‘dance’ with participants’ challenges and by weaving the following themes through them, provide contextually relevant learning:

  • Cognitive and collaborative overload, fatigue, stress
    and burnout
  • Accountability, effectiveness and results in a ‘new container’
  • Psychological safety, citizenship, incivility and rudeness
  • The soft costs of collaboration and overcoming them
  • Developing the language of collaboration
  • Conflict, disagreement and harmony
  • Selfishness and selflessness
  • ‘Single cell’ overlaying
  • Lone wolf teachers
  • Unlearning

This Workshop is Suitable For:

  • Teachers about to step into a leadership position in an
    ILE/MLE for the first time;
  • Teachers already leading in an ILE/MLE;
  • Teachers aspiring to be a leader in an ILE/MLE;
  • Senior leaders wanting to support their middle leaders in ILEs/MLEs;
  • Senior Leaders who are developing or moving towards ILEs/MLEs in their schools;
  • Senior Leaders who are taking up new positions in ILE/MLE schools;
