Ngā Pātū o te Whare and the revised 2026 Teaching Standards:
Embedding Identity, Belonging, and Connection

This interactive workshop invites kaiako to engage deeply with Ngā Pātū o te Whare – the Wall of Identity – as a guiding framework for culturally grounded, inclusive practice in early childhood education. This framework is the foundation for the revised Teaching Standards.

Together we will explore how the rich narratives woven through the panels of Tangata Whenua, Tangata Tiriti, Tagata o le Moana, and Tangata Aramoana can inform and inspire curriculum design, assessment practices, and internal evaluation.

Through storytelling, reflection, and collaborative planning, participants will unpack the practical applications of identity-affirming pedagogy and consider how to:

  • Centre Te Tiriti o Waitangi in everyday practice
  • Ensure your documentation of learning celebrates the development of cultural identity
  • Evaluate teaching practices through the lens of inclusion and belonging

This workshop offers a timely opportunity for kaiako and leaders to reflect on their own identity journeys, deepen cultural responsiveness, and align practice with the aspirations of Te Whāriki and the revised 2026 Teaching Standards.

Join us as we move beyond representation to genuine connection — creating learning environments where every child, whānau, and kaiako is seen, valued, and empowered.

Half Day Workshop – 9am – 12.30pm
