The Pedagogy of Play

This half day interactive workshop focuses on gaining a shared understanding between the early childhood and primary sectors of WHY we believe in the power of learning through play.

As part of a seamless transition for children between early childhood and school, it is important we have a shared understanding of what play-based pedagogy really means in each setting.

This professional learning programme will:

  • Delve into the different theorists associated with playful learning – for both sectors.
  • Discover what ‘playful learning’ might look like in each setting – what are our similarities and differences?
  • Gain an understanding of each sector’s curriculum documents – New Zealand Curriculum and Te Whāriki (2017).
  • Exploring ways both sectors can work together to ensure a seamless ‘playful’  transition for children moving from early childhood to school.
